The Baptist Church was the first church organized in the Hale Community. Baptist ministers went into the lumber camps to preach the gospel.
The first Sunday School was held in the Teed School in 1887, and Rev. Phillips from Tawas preached every two weeks.
On October 6th, 1889 the Rev. H.S. Mellon organized the Plainfield Baptist Church with 12 members.
In the Winter of 1889, the members decided to build a church. The logs were sawed for the church, and ladies' aid and missions circles were organized to help with the finances. Mr. Yawger, an expert carpenter, did the construction work and all of the men helped with the rough work.
Opening Services were held on October 1, 1893.
in 1931 the name was changed from Plainfield Baptist Church to the First Baptist Church of Hale. In 1936 the church was wired for electricity. On July 4th, 1943 the church celebrated its 50th anniversary.
In 1975 the church purchased the Spencer Farm, and a new church was built. A pavilion and double garage were added in the early 2000's, as well as an addition to the south side of the church.
The church continues to be a pillar in the community of Hale. We host annual events like Vacation Bible School, The Ladies Tea, and help with the Iosco County Fair.
We have something for the whole family, on Sundays, we have Discipletown, our growing kids ministry, On Wednesdays our youth group meets before Recharge, and The Watchmen men's group and Woman's fellowship meet once a month.
